Two New Blogs

I just set up two new blogs.  I am looking for some people that want to post to the blog.  Right now I could use a few good conservatives to post to Show Me Conservative.  If you are a Republican and if you want to think about some issues and post to the blog then I could use your input.  Think about it and we can give it a try.
Now I do not want someone that is just going to call names and get all crazy.  I do not think that is going to work well for the blog.  I would like someone that thinks and have some ideas of their own.  You could post as often as you have content.  I know many of you are busy.  It could be something you do each day, each week or just a couple of times a month.
I will set up some sort of list with people blogging with a photo, link to send you an email and link to some site that you want to give.
When you write something feel free to post links.  So you do not have to cover everything in great details.  You can put links to sites.

If you are liberal then you can post to Show Me Progressive

If you are interested email me:  hnbbs@usa.net
Keep in mind that my blogs are pretty personal to me so do not feel bad if this does not work out.  It does not mean that I don't like you it just means it did not work for me.

Ex-Gitmo detainees resume terror acts

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Dozens of suspected terrorists released by the United States from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, are believed to have returned to terrorism activities, according to the Pentagon.

Since 2002, 61 former detainees have committed or are suspected to have committed attacks after being released from the detention camp, Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell said at a briefing Tuesday.

The number is up since the Pentagon's last report in March 2008 when officials said 37 former detainees had been suspected of returning to the battlefield since 2002.

Since 2007, more than 100 detainees were released, significantly more than in previous years, according to Pentagon officials.

According to the statistics, of the 61 former detainees that are believed to have returned to fighting, 18 have been officially confirmed while 43 are suspected, Morrell said…”

Israel pounds Hamas

  gaza-massacre-2009

I looked at some Palestine blogs.  I got the cartoon above from Palestine Think Tank.  I did not look at a lot of sites but I looked at a few sites.  I did not see one word on any of the sites where they called on Hamas to stop attacking Israel.  I did not see one site that put any blame on the Palestine side.
In the cartoon above it shows the Israel military with a big smile on his face etc.  He is also burning a mosque.  Hamas, of course, uses mosques and places were there are people to cover their operations.

See my post “Do not throw the arrow which will return against you” to see my views on this current fighting.

Gaza relief boat rammed by Israeli vessel

I read the CNN headline “Gaza relief boat ‘rammed’ by Israeli vessel” and I am thinking this is not good.  Then I read “…Also on the Dignity were several human rights activists, including former U.S. Rep. Cynthia McKinney…”
My feeling is that any boat that has Cynthia McKinney should be rammed for just that reason.  Why would these people have anything to do with her.  I do not trust any group that has anything to do with her.
Yes I know she was a Democrat in the past but is no longer a Democrat.

Do not throw the arrow which will return against you

“GAZA CITY (CNN) -- Israeli airstrikes pounded Hamas-ruled Gaza on Saturday, killing at least 225 and injuring 400, in what Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak said was a response to escalating rocket attacks against Israel.

Yet Hamas blamed Israel for the artillery exchange, accusing it of violating a cease-fire intended to stem violence in the region.

Barak said the Israeli attacks would continue as long as necessary until Hamas militants were ready to "change their behavior."

"This will not be a short operation. The war on terrorism is an ongoing one, and we will have to stand firm in order to change the situation in the south," Barak said Saturday, one day after an Egypt-brokered cease-fire between Hamas and Israel expired.

Barak told CNN that Israel was compelled to respond with force after evacuating Gaza three years ago "to the last square inch" only to face continuous attacks…”

אין לזרוק את החץ אשר יחזיר נגדך

I can fully understand why Israel is doing this military action.  They have rockets being fired from Gaza into Israel and the government and people of Gaza will not stop firing the rockets.
I think Israel has the right of self defense and the right and duty to protect and defend their nation and people.

Is this going to make Israel any safer?  I think no.  I think it plays right into the hands of Hamas.  It makes them more powerful and gets more support and aid for Hamas.
I feel this is just what President Bush did when he went to war with Iraq.  He made Iran much more powerful.  I think Israel has done the same thing.
This is a difference however and that is that Iraq did not attack the United States and was no danger to the United States.
Israel has killed some Hamas leaders.  At what cost?  Hamas lost a few crazy leaders and Israel has killed how many woman and children.  How many arrows will now return to Israel?

“Do not throw the arrow which will return against you” is an old Kurdish proverb.

The 1914 Christmas Truce Observed

“Soldiers on the Western Front laid down their arms this evening in observance of the Christmas holiday. The "Christmas Truce," as it has been referred to, was proposed by Pope Benedict XV earlier in the month but was roundly rejected by commanders on both sides. Although the first denial had come from the Russians, whose Orthodox Church celebrates Christmas on January 7, eventually all sides refused to honor the truce.

Despite their commanders' refusal to honor the day, soldiers in the trenches on the Western Front embraced the truce by singing Christmas carols to each other across the area known as "no man's land." "[Foreign Legion officer Phil Rader said,] ‘We had been in the trenches for twenty consecutive days, before Christmas dawned. For twenty days we had faced that strip of land, forty-five feet wide, between our trench and that of the Germans that terrible no man's land, dotted with dead bodies, criss-crossed by tangled masses of barbed wire,’" reported The Sheboygan Press on March 25, 1915. "‘Thoughtlessly I raised my head, too. Other men did the same. We saw hundreds of German heads appearing. Shouts filled the air. What miracle had happened? Men laughed and cheered. There was Christmas light in our eyes and I know there were Christmas tears in mine. There were smiles, smiles, smiles, where in days before there had been only rifle barrels.’"

NOTE: Soldiers emerged from both sides of the trenches and entered no man's land, exchanging gifts, singing songs and in at least one area, playing a game of soccer. Groups of soldiers removed the bodies of their fallen comrades behind the lines, and for a brief time, were able to leave the war and rejoin civilization as they had once known it. Unfortunately, the war resumed the following day and where there had been smiles and songs the day before, there were again only the sounds of artillery and machine gun fire.”  NewspaperARCHIVE.Com

Times have changed and people are different.  I am not sure we are a better people or the world is a better place.
On December 24th of 1939 Pope Pius XII made a Christmas Eve appeal for peace.  It had no effect.  Not even for a day.

Shoeing of President Bush

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- “The trial of a reporter charged with throwing his shoes at President Bush during a news conference will begin next week, according to the reporter's brother…”

I am no fan of President Bush but I think that Muntadhir Al-Zaidi should do some jail time.  If he would made a public statement that he is sorry and that what he did was wrong then I would say he should get 30 days in jail.  He has been in jail for two weeks so in about two weeks he would get out of jail.
If he will not make a public statement that he is sorry and what he did was wrong then I would say he should serve about six months in jail.
I think the cable news company that he works for should be punished.  You can not do it in a legal form.  It is my understanding that they have not said he did wrong or that they are sorry that it took place.  They have just been demanding the release of Muntadhir Al-Zaidi.  I think they should never get a White House press pass or get an interview.

Democratic National Convention

Starting today (August 25th) is the Democratic National Convention.    I will try and watch the DNC on cable.
I get a CNN.Com live video feed on my desktop.  I have the Google sidebar set up on my computer.  The CNN feed is a sidebar “gadget.”  I also have a BBS audio gadget.

It looks like you and I can watch the entire Democratic National Convention on the Internet at their DNC Convention site
