I did not know Jim Gammon but he was a radio and television broadcaster for years. I remember hearing and seeing him over the years.

Jim Gammon passed from this life May 29, 2009. Jim was born April 12, 1927 to James B. "Blake" Gammon and Floy M. Gammon in St. Louis, MO. Jim was a veteran of World War II. His radio and television broadcasting career began in Peoria, IL in 1949 at WMMJ while he attended Bradley University on the G.I. Bill. In 1950 he transferred to C.M.S.U. in Warrensburg, MO and majored in speech and dramatics. In 1951, Jim married Betty Ann Proctor of Tipton, MO. Jim's career took him and his family to Clinton, MO (KDKD), Warrensburg, MO (KOKO), Boonville, MO (KWRT), and in 1958 to Kansas City, MO where he worked for top radio and television stations: KCMO Radio-TV, 1958-1963: KMBC Radio-TV, 1963-1965; WHB, 1965; WDAF Radio-TV, 1968-1970; and KBMA- TV 41, 1970-1975. He concluded his broadcast career doing freelance work in television and radio. For many years Jim was the voice of the Kansas City Golden Gloves. Jim was a member of the Ararat Shrine Temple. Jim is survived by wife Betty of the home, son Michael of Blue Springs MO, daughter, Barbara Webb of Blue Springs, MO, son Randy of Kansas City, MO and son David of Sugar Creek, MO; six grandchildren; two great-grand- children, and a brother Robert Gammon of Jefferson City, MO. He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother William Gammon, and a grandson Chris Gammon. Memorial Services will be Thursday, June 4, 2009 at 7 PM at the D.W. Newcomers Sons Noland Road Chapel, Independence, MO. Visitation will be from 5 PM-7 PM Thursday at the chapel. Arr: D.W. Newcomers Sons Noland Road Chapel 816-252-8900.
