ShowMeBlog Mobile

A friend said the best link for this blog is:

http://winksite.mobi/xhtml/ms_bl.cfm?susid=5934

It strips off all images and all sidebar stuff so you just get the blog entries.

If you can not remember the URL above remember you can use:
www.showmeblog.mobi

The other day when we had the power problems I found out later that my problem was when we lost power my connect to my external USB hard drive was lost.  I store some of the data for the email program and data for other programs on that external drive.  When I notice I had no drive D and fixed it then my problems went away.
Thank God, no more power problems.
I hope you all are going to have a good 4th of July.  It looks like it is going to be off and on rain here in the Miami (FL) area.  They may get the fireworks off between storms but if you go to an outdoor fireworks show I think your going to get wet.
If you are shooting off your own fireworks please please use care.
One night I was working security at a hospital and a patient came into the ER.  He was about 6 years old.  His father shot off a bottle rocket and it hit the boy in the eye and put out his eye.  It was so sad.  The father was very upset and sad.  So please use care.  Be safe and sound.

I am broke and I am just going to stay at home and watch TV.  I may see if there is any streaming video from some site.

The Disposable Film Festival

Disposable Film Fest '09 Promo from Disposable Film Festival on Vimeo.

This seems like a great idea.
Their site is:  The Disposable Film Festival

The deadline for 2010 is August 31, 2009.  They are going to have prizes.  Submission must be under 10 minutes.  Details at their site.
I will post the winners here on ShowMeBlog and Howard’s Notebook when they announce them.  It looks like it will be fun.

mobiReady

I found a neat site called mobiReady.
mobiReadysite

You can check a page or a site and see how they score a site on how well it will display on a mobile device.
Now I have been told that ShowMeBlog shows up very well on smart phones.  I know it looks good on my cell phone.  So I did the check and they report that ShowMeBlog will “definitely display very poorly on a mobile phone.” They rate for Readiness, Size, Estimated Cost and Estimated Speed.

showmeblogmobilerating

I then checked Howard’s Notebook and it was about the same as ShowMeBlog.  It had a Score of .92, Size of 298.82k and Speed of 1.58s on WiFi and 3G speed of 17.60s.  Now the GPRS speed was 74.44s.
I had never checked Howard’s Notebook on my cell phone which is 3G but I have never seen a 3G connection with it.  It loaded pretty fast but it was still loading things but I could view the page.
So I am not sure how correct the mobiReady site is with their testing.  But they look like a neat site.
Since so many people are doing stuff on their iPhones and other devices I will be looking to see what I can do to improve my two sites.

ASCAP Wants To Be Paid When Your Phone Rings

“ASCAP (the same folks who went after Girl Scouts for singing around a campfire) appears to believe that every time your musical ringtone rings in public, you're violating copyright law by "publicly performing" it without a license. At least that's the import of a brief [2.5mb PDF] it filed in ASCAP's court battle with mobile phone giant AT&T.

This will doubtless come as a shock to the millions of Americans who have legitimately purchased musical ringtones, contributing millions to the music industry's bottom line. Are we each liable for statutory damages (say, $80,000) if we forget to silence our phones in a restaurant?

ASCAP's outlandish claim is part of its battle with major mobile carriers (including Verizon and AT&T) over whether ASCAP is owed any money for "public performances" of the musical ringtones sold by the carriers. The carriers point out that the owners of the musical compositions (i.e., songwriters and music publishers) are already paid for each ringtone download, but ASCAP claims that it's owed another royalty for the "public performances" (i.e., ringing in a restaurant) of those same ringtones.

Fortunately, ASCAP is wrong. Even if the incidental mobile phone playback of a short snippet in a public place were viewed as a "public performance" (something no court has ever held, and that would also put you in jeopardy for playing your car radio with the window down), the Copyright Act has a specific exception, 17 U.S.C. 110(4), that covers performances made "without any purpose of direct or indirect commercial advantage." That should take care of ringtones going off in the restaurant…”

T-Mobile myTouch 3G with Google

“T-Mobile USA's follow-up to the first "Google phone" will go on sale in early August, the carrier said Monday.

The "T-Mobile myTouch 3G with Google" will be a touch-screen phone and will lack the physical keyboard of the T-Mobile G1, the first phone that used Google Inc.'s Android software.

The G1 went on sale in October. T-Mobile has sold more than 1 million of the phones.

Google is giving away the software, because the company's goal is to make Android the basis for phones across the industry, stimulating the use of its Web services on mobile devices.

Google is getting some traction. Verizon Wireless has said it will bring out an Android phone "in the near future." Motorola Corp. is betting big on Android, and aims to have its first products out late this year…”    Yahoo! Tech

I like the idea of the Google type phone.  I could be happy with it.  But I do not want to pay $80.00 plus each month for the service and I no longer want to have a contract for x number of years.  I like the idea of the flat rate pay as you go plans.
So I may just stay with MetroPCS, I just spent $300.00 for a phone, until they offer one of the phones.

No new iPhone today please

I just got a new cell phone that I am happy with…  The Palm Pre came out Friday and I was still happy with my new cell phone… now there is talk that a new iPhone will come out today.  I hope I will still be happy with my cell phone if they come out with a new iPhone today.
I have a daughter that used a Palm Theo for years.  Her company went with the new iPhones and she has not been impressed with the iPhone. She says one of the big things is that it does not have copy-and-paste.  Reports are that today a new iPhone updates will come out and that is one of the things it will offer.  She uses her phone all the time for business.  She travels and works long hours.  She works out of Washington DC.

My son, grandson and I share a place here and my son makes very good money.  In fact he is expecting a $20K back pay check one of these days.  He has just a simple cell phone. He acts like I am stupid for spending so much money on a cell phone.  (Remember Jack Benny?  Jack Benny would have loved my son.  They could have had a contest to see who was tighter with money.  My son would win.)
My son was never impressed with my Palm or any of the other devices that I have had but I have seen him looking at my cell phone.  Of course many of the people that he works with have iPhones.

I just want to stay happy with my cell phone today for the next year or two.

ShowMeBlog has been mobilized

One reason I got my new cell phone was so I could see what ShowMeBlog looks like on a cell phone or PDA.  If you just go to ShowMeBlog with a smart device this site will display very well.

But you can use Mippin to see ShowMeBlog on devices.

mippin

You can also use:  showmeblog.mobi and it will take you to my Winksite for mobile content.  I have not had time to re-design and make this site better but I will work on it when I get time.
So if you have a mobile device and ShowMeBlog does not display right for you check out one of those two links.

Samsung Finesse and MetroPCS Sevice

My comments and feelings after owning and using the Samsung Finesse for 24 hours. I am no expert on cell phones or service plans but here are a few of my comments about the phone and service.
Pease rate the video and visit my web site: www.showmeblog.com

Test of picture-talk messaging

This message was sent using picture-talk messaging service from MetroPCS.

Here is a photo taken with my new cell phone.  Not bad a bad camera.  OK, it is only 2 MP but it looks good.  Best cell phone camera I have had so far.
I think this will work out good for me.  I can post to the blog when I am away from home.  If I lose Internet service at home I can at least post a short post and let you know what is going on.
The photo above was taken indoors, of course, without flash using my new Samsung Finesse cell phone and sent to the blog.  I think it is pretty neat.

Six Mile Walk

I took the bus about half way to the doctor’s office yesterday and then walked to his office.  I am guessing I walked 2 miles to his office.
When I left his office I did not use a bus and I walked home.  I should have used the GPS unit to get the distance but I put it at over a six mile walk just home.  Not bad for a fat old bald man.  Remember we are talking about in the Miami heat.
I got a little too much sun and my feet hurt.  Today will be a day of rest.

I got my new cell phone that I wanted.  I like it.  I have not got 3G service yet on it.  But it seems to load the Internet and do other things fast.  It does not look like at home I can get 3G service with MetroPCS.
I am playing an extra $4.00 a month for insurance for the phone.  I just signed up for an extra $1.00 a month for their MetroBACKUP plan.  It will be worth the money.  You can backup up your contacts to the Internet and you can log on to their site and add and update your contact information.
I spent $12.00 for a SanDisk 4GB microSDHC card for the phone.  It was on sale at Radio Shack.
If you get the Samsung Finesse phone you will need to get a microSD card for it.

I just put AOL IM on the phone.  Not sure if I will use it or not.
But it is on and does not cost any extra.
