Smoking or gays?

“WASHINGTON (CNN) -- You've seen the iconic picture of a soldier with a cigarette dangling from his mouth, but that could soon be a thing of the past.

A new study commissioned by the Pentagon and the Department of Veterans Affairs recommends a complete ban on tobacco, which would end tobacco sales on military bases and prohibit smoking by anyone in uniform, not even combat troops in the thick of battle.

According to the study, tobacco use impairs military readiness in the short term. Over the long term, it can cause serious health problems, including lung cancer and cardiovascular disease. The study also says smokeless tobacco use can lead to oral and pancreatic cancer.

The Defense Department's top health officials are studying the report's suggestions and will make recommendations to the Pentagon's policy team and Defense Secretary Robert Gates.

The study recommends phasing out tobacco products such as cigarettes and cigars over a five- to 10-year period…”

The CNN story goes on to say that many in the military object to a ban on smoking.

The military is so upset with the idea of gays in the military, and we know that about 10% of the military is gay, I think we should offer a deal …It could be you can smoke if you agree to gays in the military.  Smile

Watch coverage of Michael Jackson Memorial?

The following is a comment from Dick Williams:

CNN POLL
How will you watch coverage of Michael Jackson memorial?
TV 13% 17488
Web 10% 13649
Not watching 78% 108297

  A poll on CNN.com

Enough and too much. The guy was talented but left a murky and

tarnished legacy. All the negatives seem to be forgotten in the rush

to make him into a  pop hero. I don't see that he used his celebrity

as some other rich celebrities  have done -like Oprah, Bill Gates,

Angelina Jolie  - all with a string of charitable works and

gifts.   He used his money for a self indulgent lifestyle that ended

up destroying him.

Pixar Grants Girl’s Last Wish to See Up

I have never heard of Pixar or of “Up” but I just found this story on the Internet:

A child's last wish
10-year-old Colby Curtin died of cancer this week, but before she passed away, her final wish was fulfilled. The child had desperately wanted to see the new Pixar movie, "Up." Unfortunately, she was too ill to go to the theater. According to various articles within the Buzz, Pixar was told of Colby's illness. The company sent a representative to deliver a DVD for Colby to watch in her room. Though she could no longer see, her mother narrated the action. Colby died several hours after the movie ended, and searches on "up movie make a wish" and "colby curtin up" both soared.

That is so sad but it is so nice that her family worked so hard to get her last wish for her.  I know nothing about Pixar but that is so great of them to do that for the girl and her family.  God bless them.
The story was on Yahoo! Buzz and written by Mike Krumboltz.

How can I help my schizophrenic son?

CNN has a question and answer service.  A woman asked “How can I help my schizophrenic son when he stops taking his meds?”

Here is her question:

Asked By Maria, PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania

“Please help. My son has been diagnosed with schizophrenia. However, when he starts feeling better he won't take his medicine, which is risperidone, and it is very difficult for us to get him to take it when he is not feeling well. He is a bright young man who has lost his job many times because of this illness. Are there any new findings for this illness? Can you explain what part of the brain is affected?”

I was very interested in the answer to the question since I also have a son with the same problem.  He is not taking his medications now.  He says that he takes the medication.  He lives in Texas with mother, my ex-wife, and she can not get him to take his medications.
About three months ago I started sending him $120.00 each month as a bribe to take his medication but that has not worked.

Here is the CNN doctor’s answer to the woman’s question.

Lost Internet for a hour

I have Comcast cable and am very happy with it.  I cable service for about an hour.  One thing when you have cable tv, telephone service and Internet from the same company if you lose service not much for you to do but go to bed.  Smile
I was just getting ready to call Comcast on my cell phone when the TV came back on and then a bit later I got the cable service and phone service back.
I was getting ready to post to ShowMeBlog using my new cell phone but we got the service back.  That is one way the cell phone will help.  Not only could I post to ShowMeBlog when I am away from home but if we lose Internet service I could post.

Mogulus video is now Livestream video.  It is a much better name.  They got a pretty neat setup for streaming audio and video.

I use IncrediMail for my eMail program.  They now are working on a new upgrade and it will be IncrediMail v2.0 and I am running the beta at this time.  It looks nice.  It seems  to work excellent.

June is Gay Pride month and it is the start of the Hurricane season.  Is there a connection?  Smile
I bet there will be a lot of gay events in the Miami and Ft. Lauderdale area.  (A LOT in Ft. Lauderdale. Smile)  I bet I could get some good videos and photos.  I will have to about finding out where some of the events are located.  Ft. Lauderdale is to far for me.
I love my new phone but I wish I could have got ham radio so I could be ready for Hurricane season and help out with Skywarn.  I will just hope that storms stay away for about a month and I can get a HT next month for about $200.00 and then let the storms come.

My son in Texas is having problem with his computer and Windows XP.  I can not get him to try Windows 7.

On Howard’s Notebook I got a video area set up and I can have videos that are on other sites and I can have videos that I upload to my own site.  I like the idea of having my own videos because then YouTube and other sites can not screen and reject the content.
When I was having my prostate problems and could not piss I put a short video showing what it was like not being able to piss.  They removed the video.
Now I could post a video like that on my own site.
Any guy good at doing a Testicular Self-Exam?  Make a video and I will post it on my video area.  I did not do a search of YouTube on a search via Google.  There may already be videos like that on the Internet.  I have never done a testicular self-exam.  My insurance company sent me newsletter and it tells how to do one but I have not done it yet.
Any woman want to do a breast exam video?  I am sure there are a lot of those on the Internet.  I think even YouTube would allow a female self breast exam video.

In order to upload to my HNB video area you need to be a member of Howard’s Notebook.  Right now I got signing up turned off because of Russian spam sites.  I can add you by hand if you want to sign up.  Or tell me and I will turn on the ability to sign up for a few hours or the day.
I will see about getting the auto sign up working and keep the spammers out of the site.  I think if I required a $1.00 PayPal payment that would keep the spammers  out.  I will look around and see what is the best way to do it.  If I set up the $1.00 one time PayPal payment…any of you people that I know can just contact me and I will enter you by hand.  I would just need your name, the user name you want to use to sign in and a password.

Secede Texas Please

“…Dressed in jeans, boots and a baseball cap with a camouflage peak and a hunting outfitter's logo, the Texas governor was one of the few major politicians to appear at the tea parties across the country. While crowds yelled "SECEDE, SECEDE," Perry, 60 but telegenic and youthful, thought out loud that secession might be the outcome if Washington did not mend its "oppressive" high-spending, dictatorial ways. (Most experts suggest the notion that Texas can legally secede is mistaken, but the state does have the right to split into five states, offering the prospect of 10 U.S. senators, math that would send cold shivers down any Democratic back.)…”   Time CNN

I think we would be better off without Texas as part of the United States.  My feeling is do not let the door hit you in the ass as you leave.
I think the war between the states has already decided the issue.  I do not think Texas can leave the union.  I am sorry to say.  I think that Texas does have the right to split into up to five states.  Man those “states” would suck.  I lived in Texas for a couple of years.  I never did a lot of driving across Texas but I know what it is like.  Have you ever driven across Kansas?  When you drive across Kansas there is nothing.  You just want to get across it so you can get some place else.  Texas, I think, is 100 times worst than that.
If Texas were to break off from the United States it would just become a third world nation.  (Sort of like Miami but with out the weather and the beaches.)
You have to ask yourself what sort of state is a state that is  “the reddest of red states?”  We all know how the Republicans have almost destroyed the economy.  In fact they may have done it.  I think the President Obama and the Democrats can fix the economy but I am not sure.  In fact it is not just the economy but the Republican have come close to destroying the United States.
Now the rest of the United States sees and understands these facts.  But then you have Texas that does not seem to understand it.
If the cries to secede are real on their part then that would make them a pretty low shitty state.  Things get bad and they want to take their dirty, little bit of oil and cows and run and hide from the problems.
(On the other hand since I was thinking of moving out of the United States when President Bush won his second term I guess I am not one to talk.)

Since Texas was a nation and voted to join the United States it come in with certain rights.  I do not think leaving once they came in was one of them.  But they do have the right to break up into up to five states.  That would be interesting.

The time I was in Texas I did not see anything that I liked about the state. I am seeing less and less that I like about Texas.

Nude Vacation

(CNN) -- “There's something about being naked that makes a person forget a layoff, pay cut or a shrunken retirement account.

At least that's how the promoters of nude travel see it.

The economic recession is "doing us a lot of favors, maybe because there's the idea that if you've lost the shirt off your back, you should go nude," said Erich Schuttauf, executive director of the American Association for Nude Recreation.

He added: "You go to a [nudist resort] and when you take off all your clothes, all the cues that tie you to the workaday world -- the ties, the suits and everything -- when that's gone, your body says it's time to relax. You get in that mode faster."

While some nude-resort owners say they're cutting back because of the recession, others said they're on par with last year's budgets or are expanding their services. Overall, being naked brings in big bucks. According to Schuttauf, the industry is valued at more than $400 million..”

I think being nude at the beach or a resort is just great.  I been posting here for years about nudism.  For information on nudism in Florida check out List of Nudity places in FL.
I just got to get over to Haulover Beach.  I have only been one time and that was back about 7 or 8 years ago when I lived in Orlando FL.  Now I live right here and I have not been.

SmartyPig Loves Me

SmartyPig love me.  Yes, I was approve for their site.

I just signed up but I recommend SmartyPig.  It is a site where you decided on some goals that you want to save for and you can list them.  Then you decided how much you want to put in project.  You need to have a bank savings or checking account.
Then you can check on what your saving for and see how your doing.
Your family and friends can also see your goals, IF you approved that function, and they can add money to your fund if they want to help you meet your goal.
Anyone, if they know your email address, can go to the site and give you money for your goal.  My email address is:  hnbbs@usa.net
They can buy gift cards in the amount of $25, $50, $100 and $500 if they want to do it that way.
It looks like a great idea.

Koala drinking water

This is a very touching video.  Right now, here in the United States, we are worrying about our nation and jobs but we should not forget the rest of the world.  This video should remind us.
If you want to donate to help the people of Australia you can donate to the Australian Red Cross.  At that site you can pick Victorian Bushfire Appeal 2009 so that you help the people.
Right now I am not sure where you send your money to help the Koalas.
