Nude Vacation

(CNN) -- “There's something about being naked that makes a person forget a layoff, pay cut or a shrunken retirement account.

At least that's how the promoters of nude travel see it.

The economic recession is "doing us a lot of favors, maybe because there's the idea that if you've lost the shirt off your back, you should go nude," said Erich Schuttauf, executive director of the American Association for Nude Recreation.

He added: "You go to a [nudist resort] and when you take off all your clothes, all the cues that tie you to the workaday world -- the ties, the suits and everything -- when that's gone, your body says it's time to relax. You get in that mode faster."

While some nude-resort owners say they're cutting back because of the recession, others said they're on par with last year's budgets or are expanding their services. Overall, being naked brings in big bucks. According to Schuttauf, the industry is valued at more than $400 million..”

I think being nude at the beach or a resort is just great.  I been posting here for years about nudism.  For information on nudism in Florida check out List of Nudity places in FL.
I just got to get over to Haulover Beach.  I have only been one time and that was back about 7 or 8 years ago when I lived in Orlando FL.  Now I live right here and I have not been.

List of nudity places in FL

JimatHauloverBeach

I love Wikipedia.  I have not donated money to them yet.  I will one of these days when I have extra money.
They have a List of Social Nudity Places in North America

  Here is the information about

Florida

  • Haulover Beach, at 25°54′40″N 80°07′18″W / 25.91111, -80.12167 in Miami-Dade County (between Sunny Isles Beach, Florida, and Bal Harbour), the most popular nude beach in North America. Haulover Nude Beach is situated between the Intercostal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean and is part of Haulover Beach Park. This .4 mile stretch of white sand shores, open ocean surf, various shaded picnic facilities, beautifully landscaped sand dunes, and concession stands has attracted as many as 7,000 people on a single day. The northern nude area is officially recognized as as clothing-optional with official signs and is only a part of the Haulover Beach Park but attracts 66% to 85% of park visitors.
  • Playalinda Beach, part of Canaveral National Seashore operated by the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge (US Fish & Wildlife Service) - Titusville, FL; has long allowed nudity and has an unofficial clothing optional beach located at the north end of Lot 13 and north of dune crossover 13B. While there is no federal law restricting nude sunbathing, Brevard County passed an ordinance against nudity but the Sherriff is not enforcing it pending a challenge [7] to the constitutionality of the ordinance.
  • Lake Como Family Nudist Resort in Pasco County,Florida, is one of Florida's oldest. It is a resident-owned cooperative of almost 200 acres (0.81 km2) in a very natural setting of which 51 acres (210,000 m2) are registered as woodland and 60 acres (240,000 m2) as wetland. Five lakes are within or border the property. Lake Como exemplifies the ideals of the International Naturist Federation that include "self-respect, respect for others, and for the environment." Non-resident memberships in the resort are available, and free tours are available for those interested.
  • South Beach in Miami permits topless sunbathing, partially due to the large amount of foreign tourists and immigrants found on the beach.
  • Key West Private Sailing Charters offers 4 hour, 6 hour, snorkeling, SCUBA, sunset and custom overnight sailboat trips from Key West's historic harborwalk (just a few minutes walk from Duval Street) on which nudity is permitted.
  • Key West There are not any legal nude beaches, however Boca Chica has been used for clothing optional for many years. Most use is by locals who have kept it secret for years. There are some sandy beach areas, but do not expect wide sandy beachs, this is a more secluded area. There are no facilities or anyone to clean up after you so please remove anything you take! This is just like having your own beach. Go to mile marker 10 on highway 1, turn beside Circle K on SR 941, follow it to the end approximately 5 miles and park. Walk beyond concrete barricade and you have a 4 mile stretch all to your self. You can find additional information at Florida Keys Naturists
  • Apollo Beach - Canaveral National Seashore (National Park Service) - New Smyrna Beach, FL in the Atlantic Coast of Florida. Apollo Beach is an unofficial but traditionally safe area for nude sunbathers with positive support from the National Park Rangers. No official signs exist, but the clothing optional sunbathing area starts south of marker 29, just south of parking area 5. Scarce parking usually limits visitors to less than a hundred at a time. There is another Apollo Beach in Hillsborough County, Fl that has a very small beach inside the Tampa Bay and very close to the TECO electric plant. This is not a naturist beach and violators are fined.

I have been to Haulover Beach one time.  I have been to the Playalinda Beach a number of times.  I have not been to Haulover Beach in about 8 years.  I need to start going since I live here in Miami now.

National Nude Weekend is July 12 and 13th of 2008

National Nude Weekend is July 12 and 13th of 2008.  It is a good time to visit a nudist camp or nude beach.  Go skinny-dipping at your old pond or river.
Get nude in your hot tub or pool.

"...Nude Recreation Week (July 5-11) was originally organized in 1983 by Lee Baxandall, founder of The Naturist Society. Since then, this celebration has been adopted by a number of other naturist organizations across the USA & Canada..."  HNB

I will try and make it to Haulover Beach.
I will plan on doing a live call in radio talk show from the beach.
  Details later.

The following is from  South Florida Free Beaches

HAULOVER BEACH PARK

A Miami-Dade County Regional Park located between the cities of Sunny           Isles Beach and Bal Harbour, with a designated naturist (clothing-optional) beach           at the north end, created July 14, 1991 by South Florida Free Beaches.   The Park Department has estimated that between 66% & 85% of park   visitors use the naturist beach area.

Nudist and Naturists

I do not call myself a "nudist" but I am one at heart.  The reason I don't call myself a nudist is because when people hear that they think pervert.  One of the problems is that I see guys on webcam sites nude and wanking away  on camera and they will say they are a nudist.
Of course a person can be a nudist and a pervert.
If your looking for a very good nudist site I recommend:  International Nudist
It is hard to be a nudist in Missouri.  It is easy to be a nudist in Florida.
I went to a nudist camp in the middle of Kansas for a weekend many years ago.  Everyone was super nice.  Nudist are all real nice people for some reason.
I went to a couple of nudist swims in Kansas City and a nudist house party in Kansas City.  The swims were OK and the people were nice.  At the house party I had a feeling that maybe some of the couples might be interested more than pure honest nudism.  But they never did anything during the party and I am not sure.  There was one guy at the party that was new to the group and he asked me do any kids come to the party and I heard him ask someone else.  My guess is that someone like that does not get invited to any more events.
Some people are a bit nuts on the subject of nudism.  I guess any "ism" can make people nuts.  There are some events that are best done with pants on...Maybe cooking...I am not sure..but often nudist try and do everything nude.
I guess in some other nations people just go nude and do not even think about it or make a big deal out of it.  It is like that at Haulover Beach here in Miami FL.
It is great to go to the beach and not have to worry about a swim suit and it is nice to get out of the water and not have a tight wet swim suit.
I would love to live real close to Haulover Beach or some other beach were nudity was allowed and just walk over to the beach all the time.  Now I live in Miami FL but I don't have a car and for me to get to Haulover Beach I bet it would take me an hour and a half to two to get to the beach by bus and rail.  If I missed a bus it would take longer.

I guess I should not be talking about nudism and Haulover Beach when most of the United States is under ice and snow.  Smile

Back a few months ago I reported here about the Battleboro VT.
I just found this information about the matter on USAnudist

"By: USAnudist Category: Commentary

Another example of misguided logic has hit the news. Battleboro, VT has no law against public nudity. Last year, many of the young people of the town began hanging around nude at a local parking lot. The local reaction was mostly of the “kids will be kids” until outsiders began traveling to Battleboro to take advantage of this.

When strangers started walking naked through downtown businesses, the citizens and local officials reacted by passing a temporary law prohibiting public nudity. It seems the people of Vermont are very tolerant and don’t really want to make unneeded laws until pressured into it by the actions of people who should know better.

The following story illustrates another example of the results of provoking the status quo.

Brattleboro police say they arrested a man after he allegedly exposed himself to children.

Being nude in public is legal in Brattleboro as long as you behave. But, Sunday night police say 60-year-old John Lockwood removed his pants, then posed for two young girls at the Brattleboro Food Co-op.

He was charged with two counts of lewd and lascivious conduct with a child. Lockwood reportedly told investigators he came to Brattleboro from Florida to support public nudity, and he denied any wrongdoing.

By taking this action, this person is doing nothing to support public nudity. In reality, he is making it less likely that public nudity will be accepted and giving ammunition to those who accuse nudists of being perverted.

Working within the system in your own back yard makes a far more reasonable case than being a naked stranger walking through a town naked just because you can get away with it.
To be effective in supporting public nudity, such actions must be lawful and not provocative or confrontational. Nothing could be more damaging to such a campaign than to make the opposition feel threatened or offended. By working within the system and making allies rather than enemies, goals are much more likely to be acheived."

Haulover Beach

I have been here in Miami for over two years now and I have not made it to Haulover Beach yet.  This week I just got to get out to Haulover Beach.
Back about six years ago I did make it to Haulover Beach.  That was when I was living in Orlando FL.
  Haulover4
I am going to try and make it out this week.  I will be taking the MetroRail from Dadeland North station to the Government Center Station and then I will take the bus (Route T).
I will have my Palm Treo with me and I will post a photo and a few remarks as I make the trip.  Since I am taking the bus and I will be alone.. I am not sure if I can get into the water.  I don’t want to get my phone and camera wet.  I also can’t leave them on the beach with no one to watch them.. so I may just set on the beach.
When I was at the beach years ago I burned myself very bad.

Haulover Beach is a “clothing-optional” (nude) beach.  It is officially approved by the government.  It is legal to be nude at Haulover Beach.

The best web site for Haulover Beach is:  South Florida Free Beaches

Ken Made It Home

Ken0704water_1
Ken made it home OK.  He has very little sun burn.  I got more than he got.  He used sun screen.  I never use any sun screen or anything like that..
Ken said the fire works show was nothing special except for the location and the view of Miami area.  He said the music was not all that great.  He said he has seen better fire works shows in Missouri and Texas.  He said he has heard better music in Missouri and Texas.
He said the traffic was not bad and the parking was not bad.  He called about three friends on the telephone and told them they should come over to the South Beach or was it North Beach ...well they are all local people and they said they don't go to stuff like that..

Mad Dogs and English Men

I wrote a long blog entry here about today and posted a couple of photos and then forgot to save it.  The work was lost.
I don't feel like doing it again.  I will make this short.

Walkingtohaulover_1

Ken and I headed out today for South Beach and a concert and fire works show.  We parked at 73rd Street (Collins) and walked to about 101 street.  But we did not make it to Haulover.
So when the bus came I got on the bus and headed home.  Ken went to 73rd street to wait for the concert and fire works.
I got too much sun.  I was on the bus at about 2 pm heading home.  It took me until 5 pm to get  home.  It is 9:30 pm and Ken is not home yet.  I fear he will have got sun burn.
Ken liked the beach.  He said he wants to start going to that beach.  I told him great.  You can drop me at Haulover and go on to South Beach.
Right now I can hear fire works.  I am not sure where they are being shot off.
Happy 4th of July to everyone.  This is the birthday of the United States of America.

Haulover Beach + North Beach

I am on my way to North Beach and Haulover Beach for the music and the fire works.
Photos when I get home.
It is going to be a long day.
I am leaving at 10 am.  Fire works are at 9 pm.
