  A blog site called John Chow dot Com says it took in $30K in January of 2008.  I find it hard to believe.  If you visit the link above he breaks it down and tells you were the money came from. 
  This blog will pay my mortgage list these sites and the amount of money each month they are taking in:

  Howard's Notebook, my blog, takes in about $40.00 each month. 
I do not know if any of the numbers above are correct or not but I sure find it hard to believe that any blog takes in $30K a month.

  Maybe you should be doing a blog.

Today in FL

  I took this photo a few hours ago.  Yes this is today in FL.
  I know many of you have ice and snow and very cold weather and this is what I have to deal with here in Miami.  Smile

  Our air conditioning unit started buzzing today.  I went out side and the fan is not running.  I turned it off and called Ken, at work, so he can call the owner. 

  Yes my friends up North we run the air conditioning unit all year down here.

   The photo above is of the Indian golf course a block from here.  I wish I liked to play golf. I wish their casino was a block from here.  It is not far from here but there is no bus service to the casino.   

More on the nurses

  I did not plan to post anymore on the 10 nurses that were arrested and charged with a crime. What was their crime? They quit their jobs.  I was thinking that everyone can see that this was a case of a business trying to return to the old days of labor relations.
  In the old days a company would hire private guards and they beat and killed workers.  In the old  they could get the state to call out the national guard and they would beat employees.  This company would have done that in the old days. It got a DA to try beat the employees using the law.
  I was thinking that everyone can see this because it is clear as glass.
  Well I looked around and found comments left on the subject and I almost fell over because I saw a lot of comments from people saying that the DA was correct and that these nurses did commit a crime.

  Maybe I need to add some more details here.  These nurses were not on duty and taking care of a patient and then they walked out the door.  The had meetings with the company and been demanding changes and improvements and saying that things could not go on the way they were going.  Demands also that would help the patients.  There was only one nurse on duty at a time taking care of13 patients.
  The company more or less was saying fuck you to them and telling them if you don't fucking like it then get the fuck out of here and go back were you came from.
  I would be willing to bet when the nurses were hired that they had to sign a paper saying we can fire your ass anytime we want and with out notice for any reason (and you can quit at anytime with out notice).  That is what businesses have you sign now.  The last two places I worked had me sign such a paper (Dadeland Mall and CompUSA). 
  I also would be willing to bet big money if the 10 nurses had said in the meeting with the company we are going to look into getting a union that they all would have been fired right on the spot.
 

  Let me say again these nurses were NOT on duty.  There was a nurse on duty.  It is the job of the company to staff their nursing home.  The company can pick up the phone and call a nursing agency and have them send nurses over to work.
  Or if the company treats their employees so bad and does not care about the patients then they can pick up the telephone and have the patients transferred to some other nursing home.
 
  This was a labor lynching.  A company trying to use the state to force employees to keep working or do other things.  I also suspect that racism may enter into this story.  All of these nurses were Filipino. 
   
  There is no question in my mind that at some point a high court is going to order an end to this case and is going to take some action to punish the DA.
  The company might have had some sort of civil case that could have attempted like breach of contract or something.  Now however these Filipino nurses have a major civil case they can bring and they can collect money from the company and maybe from the DA.
  The nurses may end up owning the company before this is all over.

High-Speed Internet Satellite Launched

(CNN) -- "Japan launched a rocket Saturday carrying a satellite that will test new technology that promises to deliver "super high-speed Internet" service to homes and businesses around the world.

The rocket carrying the WINDS satellite -- a joint project of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries -- lifted off its pad at 5:55 p.m. (0855 GMT).

If the technology proves successful, subscribers with small dishes will connect to the Internet at speeds many times faster than what is now available over residential cable or DSL services.

The Associated Press said the satellite would offer speeds of up to 1.2 gigabytes per second.

The service initially would focus on the Asia-Pacific region close to Japan, a JAXA news release said.

"Among other uses, this will make possible great advances in telemedicine, which will bring high-quality medical treatment to remote areas, and in distance education, connecting students and teachers separated by great distances," JAXA said.

The rocket was launched from Japan's Yoshinobu Launch Complex at the Tanegashima Space Center."

  This is the sort of news I love to hear.  Soon a person could live anyplace and get high speed Internet access.  So I could out in some small town someplace and not only get high speed Internet access but it would be faster than the current cable and DSL service.
   When I lived in Orlando FL we had the one way satellite service.  We got our Internet down from the satellite but we had to use a phone line to send data.  Let me tell you that it sucked.  It was no good.
    A few years later we lived in Texas and we got the satellite service that used a big dish for two day Internet service.  It was very bad. 
    So I hope this new service works out and that other nations start to do it soon. 

Nurses facing jail for quitting jobs

  You are NOT going to believe this story.  I am so fucking mad that I can not type.  I am pounding on the keys here.

RIVERHEAD, N.Y. -- "For months, the nurses complained that they were subject to demeaning and unfair working conditions -- not what they were promised when they came to America from the Philippines in search of a better life. So they abruptly quit.
But in doing so, they put more than their careers at risk: Prosecutors hit them with criminal charges for allegedly jeopardizing the lives of terminally ill children they were in charge of watching.

The 10 nurses and the attorney who advised them were charged with conspiracy and child endangerment in what defense lawyers say is an unprecedented use of criminal law in a labor dispute. If convicted of the misdemeanor offenses, they face up to a year in jail on each of 13 counts, and could lose their nursing licenses and be deported.

The case has unfolded against the backdrop of a chronic nursing shortage in the United States. All of the defendants were from the Philippines, which exported 120,000 nurses last year..."

Playing with AbiWord

  I love to try out new software.  I always install new versions of software.  I know that is dump.  You should never install a beta program.  I do it all the time. 
I hate Windows but I have software that must run on Windows.  If it were not for those programs I would run Linux. 
I have a number of blogs running.  I should just put all my effort and time into Howard's Notebook.  Because this site gets a thousands or more visitors each day and the other sites get 50 or less each day.  But I just love to mess with them and see what I can do with them.

When I write a blog post for Howard's Notebook most of the time I use a free program called Windows Live Writer.  It is a blog editor.  It is like a word processor for the blog with extras designed just for the blog.  There is another program that I use sometimes and it is called ecto. 
Both the programs make it easy to post a photo or map and other things.  One thing they do not have is a grammer checker.  Boy do I need a grammer checker.
I just downloaded AbiWord.  It is a open domain (free) word processor and it does have a grammer checker.  I wonder if my HNB post would improve if I used AbiWord.  I could write the blog entry using AbiWord and then copy and paste into Windows Live Writer.  I wonder if that would work for me.

  For years HNB had a Goggle PR rating of 4.  Back a few weeks ago it went to 0.  I have no idea what happened but I suspect that they took away my RP rating for some reason.  I must have something to do with a keyword or the content of the blog.  But lots of porn sites and all sort of other sites have a high PR rating.  Is there a Bush fan working for Google and he decided to fuck me over?  Hell are there any Bush fans anyplace?  Smile
   It is odd.  I still get tons of traffic because of Google. Hell 60% or more of the traffic to this site is due to people doing a search using Google and being sent here.  Now 95% or more of those people come here and find nothing of interest and are gone in a flash.  But if I just got 50 or 100 hits per day to HNB would I work so hard on the site and spend so much time and money on it?  I do not know. 

   I hope I get my Google PR back one day.  I have a Alexa rank of 577692.  The truth is I don't know if the Alexa rank is good or bad.  I have a "RealRank" of 3570 and I have no idea if that is good or bad.

  I  typed this using AbiWord.  I do not see anything that shows any grammer corrections.
  I will see if I can copy and paste this into HNB.

Turkish military move into Iraq

  Turkey has launched an "incursion" into Iraq to go after Kurdish rebels. 
I woke up and saw the above on the CNN web site.  Then I read that Russia threatens force over Kosovo and read of a yellow fever outbreak in Paraguay and I wonder is this the end of the world?  What is missing?

  Well we have got a good look at McCain because of the media reports and now the FEC has questions about the McCain loan.  All this brings up questions about just how honest and pure John McCain is in politics.  I had forgot about him being in the center of the Keating scandal.  I forgot that deal.  How could I forget when Keating and McCain and four others cost me (all taxpayers) billions of dollars?
  It was a 2.5 billion (billion with a B) bailout.  BNet site says that it cost every man, woman and child in the United States $10.00 to bail out the greedy rogues like Charles Keating.

Boilermakers Endorse Obama

"The Boilermakers today endorsed Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), who now has three AFL-CIO affiliated union endorsements in the Democratic presidential race.

Newton Jones, president of the 65,000-member Boilermakers, says Obama stands out in a strong field of candidates:

Clearly, we have been offered the finest field of superbly qualified candidates that we could have hoped for in this primary process. Sen. Edwards, Sen. Biden, Sen. Dodd, Gov. Richardson, Sen. Clinton and all of those who have spoken their hearts in this campaign have contributed greatly to America’s debate and our decision. But one stands out now.

  My old union The boilermakers has endorsed Sen. Barack Obama.
Right now I still think I have to be in the Hillary Clinton camp because of health care.  It looks however like Barack Obama is leading right now.

  My father was a boilermaker all his life.  In later years he was a union business agent.  In fact my mother was a boilermaker during World War II. 

Odds and Ends

  Back on the 8th of February when I was on the bus, on the way to the doctor's office, a young man got up and gave me his seat.  I was always the person that gave my seat away in life. 
  How do you know when your old?
  When someone gives you a seat on the bus.
  When someone calls you sir.
  What other answers?

  I just walked home with to small sacks of food from the store. Right at the corner and just a few feet from home a car turned the corner and a young man hung his ass out the rear window of the car.  I was thinking why would someone "moon" me.  Then I saw a cute girl at the bus stop standing under the tree.  I do not think she saw him.  (How could she see him with me coming down the side walk.  I am sure she had eyes only for me.  Smile)
