"...But all of us should recognize that the stimulus package will be inadequate to drive sustainable growth in our $13 trillion economy. An emergency Fed rate cut and an economic stimulus plan are short-term responses to our complex economic problems, nothing more than bandages for a hemorrhaging economy...
All Americans will soon have to face a bitter and now obvious truth: Our national, political and economic leaders have squandered this nation's wealth, and the price of this profligacy is enormous, and the bill has just come due for all of us..."
The above is what I have been saying except Lou Dobbs says it so much better.
See Dobbs: Our leaders have squandered our wealth
One problem is that this has hit right before an election. That is not good. The people running for office and in office only want to be elected or re-elected. They are not going to do what needs to be done or tell us what needs to be done.
I do not know the answer. We do need to end that war in Iraq. We can not afford the war. We should have only gone to war if we could pay for it. I am not sure if we need taxes or if we need less taxes. I do know than none of the people in Washington now or the ones that want to be in Washington are going to tell us that we need a tax.
Let me re-print something that I wrote here on January 19th:
"...I am not smart...just a dumb old ex-welder/night watchman...Not smart like them guys in Washington DC but you know if I was in Washington DC I would try and think of some different way to do this $800.00 hand out.
I think I would send out a $100.00 coupon that would get me a free bike made in the United States. Just think of all the jobs that would create and they would be U.S. jobs. The bikes would have to be made in the United States by U.S. workers.
So it would create jobs and when I got it and used it I would be saving gas and I would be improving my health. That would help with medical cost and insurance costs.
Then if I was in DC I would still have $700.00 to share with Americans. What if they sent me $100.00 worth of those compact fluorescent light bulbs? Now if they make them in the United States then they should be made in the U.S.A. Now I would save money on energy cost. The utility might not have to build more plants and they might use less coal or oil to create the power. I guess I should not limit it to $100.00 they should do a study to see how many bulbs most people could re-place in their home.
Now that would leave about $600.00 for them to send to me.
Maybe them there smart people in Washington could come up with other ideas like the ones I just posted or maybe even better ideas.
They could come up with a list of good causes that if money went to them would help out the United States. Maybe a list of them and we could check off and send up to $200.00 to them. Maybe we could decide what percent goes to each one. Now those organizations are going to use that money to buy things and that will help the United States. Maybe you would decide to give money to the Red Cross. They would spend it and it would help us all.
I am not saying don't send any money to us. Maybe send $200.00 or $400.00 and do some of these other things. Of course.. I an'tn smart like them there fellows in Washington so I guess they know best. I know they are always looking out for poor folks like me. And I am knowing that they only do what is best for us and the United States..."
What I was trying to say is think out side of the box. Don't just try and make people think your doing something but try and fix the problem. The 150 billion dollars, as Lou Dobbs says, is not going to fix a $13 trillion dollar broken economy.
But why waste another $150 billion.
I am not saying you have to go with the bike or the CF bulb idea. I was just trying to say...try something new...think about the problem...do not just give lip service to the problem.
