Allan Melvin Dead at 84

"LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Allan Melvin, a character actor best known for playing Sam the Butcher on "The Brady Bunch," has died. He was 84.

Melvin died of cancer Thursday at his home in the Brentwood section of Los Angeles, said Amalia Melvin, his wife of 64 years.

The jowly, jovial Melvin spent decades playing a series of sidekicks, second bananas and lovable lugs, including Archie Bunker's friend Barney Hefner on "All in the Family," and Sgt. Bilko's right-hand man Cpl. Henshaw on the "Phil Silvers Show."....."

  I never knew his real name.  But he put a smile on my face many times.  I used to watch all the shows he was on..not because of him ...but he always put a smile on my face.
  I remember him best from "All in the Family" as Barney Hafner.  I can just think about his problems with his wife on the show and think of him in the bar and have a smile about the show and about him.

  We will be seeing him and remembering him now in all of the re-runs of those TV shows.

God I Love Bush!

  It looks like President Bush wants to give me and all the other Americans $800.00 and get this he wants us to spend it.  Not save it.  Not pay off debts no, I fucking love him, he wants use to go out and spend it.
  Telling me to spend money is just what I want to hear.  He is telling me to be a good American and spend the money.  President Bush your my hero and I love you.
  I will buy a ham radio or some computer hardware.  It will be stuff that is made in China or someplace like that..so I am going to be helping China in addition to helping the United States.

$800.00 Rebate?

  There is talk about an $800.00 rebate.  Right now it is just talk and the details need to be worked out.  They did this in 2001 to help the economy and individuals received $300 and families got $600.00 to help.  I am not sure if the experts think it worked or not.
   Now there is talk, keep in mind just talk, about $800.00 for individuals and $1600.00 for a family.  I think they will have to do something and fast.  Keep in mind they have tossed this out into the public and there is going to be an election in 10 months.  Everyone in congress now will want to say.. "I got you a tax refund."
   Do not go out and buy something now thinking your going to get a tax refund.  They may have a limit on who gets the money.  Will they give refunds to families that make more than $120K a year?  Will they give money to people that did not make enough money to pay taxes?  So do not spend your it until you get it in your hot little hands.

   What would you spend a rebate of $800.00 for?

Porn Commission for the month

  I call it the porn index for the month.  Today I got $29.22 in adult banner commissions.  That is about half of the amount I get each month.  I checked my account looking for the month and I see that someone took out $8.95 on the January 2, 3 and 9.  I have no idea who it was.  They used 2checkout.com in it appears to be in OH.  But the listing does not give me any more information.  I will have to contact the band and see if I can find out who it is and why they are taking money out of my account.
   I see also that Yahoo Voice took out $2.99 on the 28th of December.  I been trying to turn off and shut down the Yahoo Voice for about a year.  Do not sign up for Yahoo Voice.
   I also been trying to stop AOL Voice.  They have not been taking out money.. but they keep adding it to a bill.  The bill now stands at about $150.00 and going up.
   I think any company that collects money fees via the Internet should be required by law to have a button on the Internet site that you can click and cancel.  Yahoo on their site say something to the effect of when the deposit you put in your Yahoo Voice account runs out that your account will be closed and you don't have to do anything.  But they keep trying to collect a fee for the phone number they issued you.  I have not used Yahoo Voice or AOL Voice in over a year.
   AOL will send printed bills sometimes..but the only way you can cancel is to call them on the telephone.  If you call on the telephone you have to give them a bunch of information.. Hell I don't know what my AOL phone number is or my password or anything.. I fucking quit using it.   Do not use AOL Voice.
   I bet your thinking ...that dumb shit Jim Howard signs up for everything.  Your 100% correct.
   But think of it this way.. I try it out for you and tell you about it.. And many things you heard about here first.
   I told people about buying up domain names to make money before anyone knew what a domain was...hell I did not know what they were.. smile.
   I was telling people what the Internet was back in 1982.  Back about then..you could log into my bulletin board system and send and receive Internet e-mail.  Hell I to tell people what e-mail was and to do it.
 
   My heart has been doing flip flops or doing something funny today..but I feel better.  I even lost a couple of pounds.  I have cut down a little bit on the food I been eating.  I got five or six hamburgers in the freezer and I have not had one.  Today all I had to eat was soup. 

  So does it sound like I been a good boy today?  No!  I walked up to Radio Shack and got some Sony Noise Canceling Headphones. 

Hello China

 I believe in world trade.  I am 67 years old and I can remember when it seemed like everything was made here in the United States.  I can remember when we started to get a lot of electronic stuff from Japan.  It was strange to see "Made in Japan" on items.  Many Americans looked down, at first, on stuff made in Japan.  But we found that it was excellent stuff and at a low price.  It soon did not matter to us that it was made in Japan.
  Now everything I see in the stories in made in China.  It is crap.  It is no good.  I am not just talking about food and toys that are not safe I am talking about everything made in China.

 We got some kitchenware for eating our food.  It was made in China and it says on it "Stainless Steel" and it all rusted after one wash.  I got a pan for cooking with a non-stick coating.  It appears that the people in China do not understand that non-stick coating does not mean that the coating does not stay on the pan.  It means that food does not stick to the to the pan.
 Next the spoons from China... not only do the "Stainless Steel" spoons rust but they are not deep.  There is a very small pocket in them to hold food.  Try and eat soup with one of them.  It is like eating soup with a knife. 
 Now on the spoons maybe they know Americans are fat and they are trying to help us.  Maybe the idea is that you can't get much food on the spoon and you will eat less.
 I am not sure I can find anything made in America any more.. I am not saving money getting junk made in China. 
 
 I guess I need to change the statement that "everything made in China" is junk.  
  I have seen some reviews of items (electronic) that are made in China and they got good reviews.  In fact I been thinking of getting a radio, from Radio Shack, that is made in China. 
 The portable radio I am looking at cost $100.00 and it gets good reviews.  But if there was one, with good reviews, made in the United States for $120.00 I would get it.
 China and the United States do a lot of trading with each other...China needs to improve their QA inspections.  I mean how hard is it to find that a spoon will rust after one wash?

Bush Broke Our Economic System and Now Wants to Fix It!

  Today President Bush will outline his stimulus plan to fix the recession.  He broke it and now he wants to fix it.  President Bush had never done anything right.  Not one thing.
  He took over our nation and we had economic growth and everything was wonderful and he fucked it up big time.  He took us from being in the black to deep in the red.  He has wasted tons and tons of money and he is still doing it.  I do not see anyway that we can get out of this mess.
  And today he is going to tell us his stimulus plan.

 

Bobby Fischer had died

  I see that Bobby Fischer has died.  A smart man, very smart, but I suspect a guy with big time mental problems.  What a sad life. 

MYRTLE BEACH, South Carolina (CNN) -- "...Reacting to criticism by his own party that he is too liberal, Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee is highlighting his conservative, evangelical southern credentials to South Carolina primary voters..."
  Huckabee is starting to remind me of that old movie about a good man that starts out running to be president but he keeps making deals and having to say and do things and by the end of the movie he is evil just like all the other guys running.  I think Huckabee was deep down a decent human being but I fear each day he is moving too the dark side.

  WASHINGTON (CNN) — John Edwards' campaign is launching a full-on assault on the media for what they claim is inadequate and unfair press coverage of the former North Carolina senator's presidential bid.
  I agree with Edwards that the press has not been dealing with him in a fair manner.  The press wants a fight.  They want name calling.  The press wants to wrap a person up and have a ribbon on the person.  It is not only Edwards but others like Ron Paul that don't get fair reporting.  We need to do something about the problem but it can't be changed this time. 
  Edwards may have been the best man for us but we may end up calling his Vice President Edwards.

Protagonist

  Yesterday I tried to watch a number of videos using Netflix and I would get the message that my Internet connection was slow.
  And that it would take an hour or so too view the video.


  I never had this problem before..Russell must been downloading a bunch of videos or something.  Late in the day, he went to bed and, I could then do the instant view and I watched "Protagonist". 

  "Four disparate lives intertwine with surprising results in this absorbing documentary, an official selection of the 2007 Sundance Film Festival. A German terrorist, a bank robber, an "ex-gay" evangelist and a martial arts student form the unlikely quartet. In her interweaving narrative, Oscar-winning filmmaker Jessica Yu explores parallels between human life and the formal dramatic structure of the Greek tragedian Euripides..."

  The video was recommended by my daughter LaDawna.  It was very interesting.  You need to stay with it until the end.  It takes a bit for you to get interested in these people.  You will be surprised what happens to these kids and how their lives turn out.
  It is a documentary.  I did not know that when I ordered it.
  I think a lot of people are going to be interested in the "ex-gay" evangelist.  People that are born again and that gang I think are going to be upset and see this as anti-religion.  I felt it was just for interesting people with great stories. 
  The story of the bank robber was excellent.  Well they were all good stories.
  I could have done with out the Greek tragedian part of the video.  First the puppets were strange.  Then the quotes from Euripides were over my head.  Now his famous quote of "Whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad" if they had used that I could have understood that..but the quotes they used I could not understand.  So for me it was a waste of time and effort.  The only way I could understand them would be to have them written in front of me and repeat them a number of times and think about them.  But they are spoken by puppets and flash on the screen.
  This movie is not for everyone but if you like real stories of real people and you can watch the entire movie I think you will like "Protagonist." 

The Less I Eat The Better I Feel

  When I went to bed last night my blood pressure was too high and I had a headache.  It is very rare for me to get a headache.  When I got it last night I took my BP and my BP was high.
  My heart was hurting.  I was having heart pain and I was weak and tired.  I put the telephone right next to my bed in case I had to call 911.  I got up a few times today but mostly stayed in bed, and I was weak and tired, until about 5 pm (1700 hours) and I felt better.   
  I did not eat very much today.  I had Jello and soup.
  I wanted to go to the store.  I want to pick up some Progresso soup.  It is great soup.  I only had the chicken so far but I am going to get more and try some of the others.  I also need Coke.  I know I know it is not good for me.
 
  Ken will be home soon.  God I hate the TV shows that he watches.  I use the headphones on my computer to do stuff on the computer but I can still hear the dumb TV programs.  I see that Radio Shack has Sony MDR-RNC6 Noise Canceling Headphones for $49.99 and I wonder if they would cancel out Ken's TV shows. 

  I was too sick today to mess with the computer.  So you know I am sick.  I looked yesterday at the Joomla! book but I have not attempted to improve Howard's Notebook yet. 

  I still have not got the scanner (radio) that I want to get.  I also want to get a ham radio.  I don't have any.  I have had some excellent ham radios but I sold them all on eBay.  I am not going to do that again.  The next ham radio I get I am going to keep.
  I have decided on a Yaesu VX-7R.  It is a 50/144/430 MHz FM transceiver.  It will fit in a shirt pocket or my hand and will transmit and receive with 5 watts of power on three amateur radio bands.  Plus it has continuous coverage of 500 kHz to 999 MHz.  That is from the bottom of AM broadcast band all the way up and includes just about everything.  So I could listen to an AM or FM broadcast station, marine, public safety, government and the shortwave broadcast bands.  So I have decided, for now, that I will just get it and not a scanner and I will do my scanning with it.  (I am sure later I will want to get a new fancy scanner.)

 

  Well I have to decide what I am going to eat tonight.  OH hell it is almost 9 pm (2100) and I said I was not going to eat anything after 2100 hours each day. 
  I am going to hurry up and eat some Dave's Wild Hook & Line Caught Chinook King Salmon.  I will wash it down with some Coke Zero.
