Who invented the Internet?

I found the following at the WebmastersDesk Technical Blog:

"Now this is something that has bugged me againa and again and again. Some one appears and pronounces that they invented the internet. I've heard so many people say it. From reports on the news to old unviversity professors. The latest people who have been saying it are the bloggers, (not including me) in a way blogging is a step to making more accessible to the non geeks in the world, but you could say that of myspace or one of the other million web inervations.
Now I remember my old professor saying he invented the internet, when he created a network between two machines back 15 years ago, his only claim was because of the distance and the lack of security.
Then their was 0800 club, who were basically hacker, who had years of history in the open source community. Which I suppose is a good claim, but like everyone else the whole community (usually the people boasting did fuck all) only donated to the whole, if I had to pick one I would probable go for The National Science Foundation which put the first TCP/IP wide area network together in 1983. But really that was just a small step in what was something that evolved, by lot of people input, every single person adding a adapting it. So in a way I suppose I did make the internet. Horay me!"

Well I did not invented the Internet.  (I did invent the blog!)  Let me tell you however that him saying that the National Science Foundation setting up a TCP/IP network in 1983 does not, to me, give them credit for inventing the Internet.  Because in 1982 people were using their 300 baud modems to dial into Howard's Notebook at 300 baud.  I had written a BBS program in BASIC and people were connecting to my system.

 

Did Al Gore say he invented the Internet?
Since we are on the subject let me clear up this one.  Because when I say I invented the blog people will say sure and Al Gore invented the Internet.
In an interview with Wolf Blitzer in 1999 Al Gore said; 

"...During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet. I took the initiative in moving forward a whole range of initiatives that have proven to be important to our country's economic growth and environmental protection, improvements in our educational system..."

Great New Chat Room

 
I have added a great new chat room.  Some of you may remember it from years ago.  I used it for a long time years ago.  It looks great and has tons of features.  One thing your going to like about it is that you can "float" the chat. 
You go to Howard's Notebook and you sign into the chat room.  Then you click on the button to "float" the chat and it is off of the page.  You can move it around on your desk.  You minimize the web page it was on and you can then surf the Internet or do what every you want to do.  You can do all the stuff you want to do on the computer and you got the chat right there with you.
I hope you will come and use the chat room.  There was a excellent chat room at BlogTV but I want to chat with you. 
PS:  This is such an excellent chat room I am paying $8.00 a month for it.  If we get people using it I will upgrade to a much more powerful version that will cost me more money.  If you will use the chat your worth the money each month.

BlogTV

I was sending out video all day and all night using BlogTV.  I was in the chat room all day and all night.  I did not get anything done.  I can not be in a chat room and get anything done.

Everyone is talking about steaming video.  People are jumping into it. 
I enjoy BlogTV.  It works so well. 

I am not sure what I am going to do.  I think tonight and tomorrow I am just going to use uStream for doing the video.  I plan to stay out of that chat room. 

I will think about what I want to do and how I want to do it.
If you the readers of ShowMeBlog came to see the video and went into the chat room it would be great. Then we could talk about what was going on and what was in the blog.  But your busy and have time to read the blog.  You may read it in person by coming to the blog or you may get the blog as an email or via RSS.  Over 800 of you read the blog each day.  About 800 of you come to the blog each day.  Others get it via eMail and others via RSS.  But almost zero watch my video and almost zero go into a chat room.
YOU are the people I care about. 

I will see how tomorrow works out.  My feeling right now is to just give up on the streaming video and the chat room.

ShowMeCam - The Early Show and The Late Show

I been broadcasting live steaming video for over 24 hours on BlogTV.  It was interesting and I met a number of very nice people.  But I got very little done.  I was sending video and in the chat room. 

I am going to try something new.  I will do two shows a day using BlogTV.
One will be at 0900 EST and it will last one hour.
One will be at 2100 EST and it will last one hour.
If you go to my site at BlogTV you will see a counter that will say "Next Show is coming up in:  " and it will count down the hours until the next broadcast.
Try and join me for these broadcasts.  You can just be a guest.  If your a guest you can see the live streaming video and hear me.  You can see what people are typing in the chat room.  But as a guest you can not type in the chat room.  If you sign up with BlogTV, and it is free, you can then type in the chat room.

There is a listing of all the shows.  Right now I have not put in any details.  But at some point I will start to put in subjects and topics and you will have an idea of some of the stuff we will be talking about. 

I would like to see all of you turn up for the broadcast.  I think the BlogTV people would be impressed by the type of people you are..your all very smart and very good people.  They monitor the content that goes out over BlogTV and I think you could wake them up and make them take notice.

Dog Races

Ken and I went to the dogs.  Well we went to a place were they have dog races and slot machines.   I lost all my money $43.00 and Ken won $95.00 at the casino. 

I sent out live streaming video all last night and all today.  I had a lot of very nice people come to the chat room.  I also had a couple of jerks come to the chat room.  I am no fan of chat rooms.  One person can mess it up for all the others.

Right now I am going to keep on sending out live streaming video.

I am just decide to send out streaming video and not have a chat room.  The chat room seems to be the problem area.

See the "Click to watch LIVE show" above?  I am now sending out live streaming video and audio 24/7.  You can watch it here or go to ShowMeCam.  If you watch it here you will see the live video and hear my audio.  You will also see on the bottom of the screen what is being typed in the chat room.  It is pretty neat.

I am using BlogTV (beta) to do all of the above.
The video is free for me and free for you.  There is no membership fee.

I did not get much done today.

700 Club (Pedophile Ring Smashed)

Sounds like the police got it right this time.  They took down a world wide pedophile ring.  This time they did it correct.  I object to the sting operations in the United States were they have a 50 year old police woman pretend to be a 14 year old girl and then arrest a guy for talking sex with the 50 year old.  I know many of you do not agree with me on that..but that is how I feel.  But this time they did it correct.  Read the story and it will put chills down your spine.

There is no end to the crimes that the current GOP White House is committing.  They break every law and then they break more.  Read about how they have been breaking and circumventing law after law.  It looks like they all need to join Libby in jail. 
But Bush is so low in support if I were him I would pardon them all right now.  I would pardon the entire Republican party.  He would not lose any support.  He has 20 to 25% support that will support him no matter what he does..the only way he could lose some of that support would be to pardon Paris Hilton.
I wonder if Bush could do that.. admit that the Republican party during his 8 years in office has been a crime family and organization and pardon them all?

Interesting story on CNN site saying that fewer baby boys are being circumcised in the U.S. 

Remember I posted here about Russell getting less than one hour of sleep last night?  He went to work at 0700 hours with less than one hour of sleep.  He was thinking he might get off work at 1700 hours.  He did not get off work until 2000 hours. I hope he learned his lesson this time.

I got a lotto ticket for the 20th and the jackpot is $19 million.  I would like to win.
I got one ticket today for a $1.00 and I won three times on the ticket.  Total I won $10.00 on the ticket.  I am going to go back tomorrow and get ten more tickets.  The most you can win on the ticket is $3K.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer

Russell (my grandson) went to see "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer" last night.  He came home late and was up all night.  So he will be going to work with out any sleep.  He said the movie was excellent.

Today or tomorrow I should get some money from the adult video banners.  I get money each month about his time.  I have been thinking about not having the banners.  I am sure that a few people object to them and do not come to the site because of them.
I also am not sure what to about my web cam.  Very few people watch it.  It also is a turn off to some people.  I have known a number of people that fear to recommend my site or fear to click on the site around people for fear that I am going to turn up on their screen nude. 
I think the only thing keeping me from putting an end to the web cam is two things.  Number one I am one of the first web cams. Number two is that there a very few people that watch the web cam all the time.  I am part of their day.  I do not want to cut them off cold turkey. 

I just checked out BlogTV.    There were only about two people sending out video.  They were both young and I went to their shows.  They had young people in their chat rooms.  So I got the heck out of there.  Now when I say young I mean 18-24 or so.   On BlogTV I have seen a couple of woman that were not "kids" and close to my age.  They were smart and we had a lot in common.  I would like to be their friend but they do not live here.  They also are a bit too young for me.  They would not be interested in me.  In fact I follow the feeling of Woody Allen about woman that would date him.  I can not remember the quotation but it was something to the effect that he could not respect a woman that would date him.
There are some additional problems in me having a relationship.  One is that I am poor.  Some woman think I am just playing down the fact that I have money.  No I am poor.  I often to not have money for food.  I do not own a home.  I do not own a car.  I have no money in the  bank.  That means no savings and no stocks and bonds.  I am poor.  I am not homeless but I could be on homeless one day soon. 
Then there are the medications I take (Avodart and Doxazosin Mesylate).  If you take just one of those medications they pretty much put an end to your sex life and I take both of them.
Oh well I have food now.  I have a roof over my head now.  I am not going to the bathroom in great pain every 30 minutes now.  I can go some place now and not have to find a rest room each 30 minutes. 
No one said life after 65 for a fat, old, bald, poor man was going to be easy.

The World's Most Hated Blogger!

I heard about the world's most hated blogger yesterday.  The blog is "I am Facing Foreclosure.Com."  It appears however that it is turning into a urban legend.  I was told that he had left the United States with millions of dollars and left his wife with $300.00 to live on.

I found his site interesting.  He is young and like a number of other guys I have seen on the Internet in the last week or two.  They are young and in good health and they are not working.  They say they are not going to do the 9 to 5 thing.  The hated blogger calls a job a "W2."

I found his last post June 17th interesting because of some of the things he talks about.  He talks about AdSense, Yahoo ads and even "PPC" (PayPerClick).  About PPC he says

"...I’m getting sick of PPC. Perhaps I should just expand my direct placements and rent out every empty pixel..."

My feeling is that these guys need to work a job and try and make money some other way when they get home from their 9 to 5 job.
