I have always been interested in Astronomy. Back right after the first satellite went into orbit I began a column on space communications. I would list the satellites in orbit and give the frequency that they were transmitting on and give orbit information on them.
When I did my radio program on WRUL radio I used to play the "Sounds of Space" each week. I would play the sound of one satellite transmitting. The 45 rpm record was by Elmo Melton a local ham in Kansas City.
When I started Howard's Notebook in 1982 I had information about Astronomy. Later a local Astronomy club used my bulletin board system. Later then started their own BBS.
I used to subscribe to "Sky and Telescope."
I have owned a couple of telescopes but they were never very good. I never could afford a real good one. I always wanted one of those fancy ones that you see in magazines.
A good link if your interested in how to buy a telescope.
As my kids were growing up I always made an attempt to point out objects in the sky.
When I worked hospital security most of the time I worked the midnight shift. Often when an employee was coming into work I would point out one or more planets when they were interesting.
On my Palm device I always had a program to help me find objects in the sky.
