"Jim a Blog is short for WEB LOG
unless you were posting your shit on the WWW in 1982 you were NOT the first BLOG"
We have one comment posted on the subject of this having been the first blog.
First let me give everyone the Wikipedia link for web log or blog.
Now here is the Wikipedia version of the history of the blog or web log.
Now I use Wikipedia a great deal and I think it is great. It is however a click of people that are a certain way and think a certain way. I would not want to put my trust and faith in what they say if it were important. Now who invented the blog is not important. So if you want to buy into their version I don't have a problem with you doing that.
No I was not posting to the WWW in 1982. I was helping invent and create the WWW at that time. I could not post to the WWW in 1982 because the WWW did not begin until 1992.
What I was doing in 1982 and right after that was having a system on line that people could connect with using a modem. At first they connected at 300 baud. Later at faster speeds. I had on Howard's Notebook all those things that make up a blog of 1992 and of the current days. A short time after 1982 you could connect to my system via your modem and click on a link from my "blog", no I did not call it a blog, and dial out on another modem that I had connected and dial out using my system and connect to another system. I think this had all the marks of a blog.
But there are two groups of people, who think about the history of the blog, and they seem to fall into one of two groups.
#1 Group say people have been been recording stuff like this since the cave men put stuff on the walls of caves. So different people in that group will have dates that the "blog" began hundreds years ago.
#2 Group they say the world wide web began in 1992 period. So the first blog began in 1992 period. You fall in that group.
I don't have a problem with group 1 or 2.
If your putting all your eggs on the word "Web Log" then I do not agree with that. It is just a term or a name. I am sure if we looked around that we would find tons and tons of things that have a name and is taken from something else.. If you used your idea I have a gut feeling that we would have to come up with new names for television, radio, radar and all sorts of other things. So if you want to place yourself in group #2 you have a lot of company. I just would not base it on the word or words of "web log."
An additional site that LaDawna sent me is: BlockStar and they have a "Timeline of early Blogs."
