Cut cost or shut the colleges down

  Where are all the smart people?  Where are all the PHDs?  They are at the colleges. 
  So why do college/education costs keep going up and up? 
  I am not sure what you do about private colleges.
But state run colleges…  Tell them they have to cut cost each year.  Tell them that their costs can not go up period.  
  If they can not make college education cheaper than the colleges should be shut down and all those smart people can just get a job working at Wal-Mart. 
 
  Now I am a reasonable guy… Next year tell them they only have to cut costs by 1%.  Then next year by 5%.  Give them a chance to work up a long range plan.
  Now when I say cut cost by 1% I do not mean that they fire housekeeping, food service and security employees.  I also not mean that they cut cost by cutting the pay of those hourly workers.
  I mean they have to find a way to make education cost less. 
  How can you give degrees in business and not have a college that can hold down and cut costs?
  What would happen to a medical school if all the doctors that you turned out could not pass their medical boards?  The medical school would be shut down.  Well do the same with the business schools if the college can not cut costs.  

  Now I think that college education should be free to all students IF they can do the work.  But then the students should have to repay for that education by doing work for the tax payers.  It could be military service or some other sort of community service.

Scientists lie about an asteroid killing dinosaurs

  Left wing liberal college scientists lie again.  They lie about everything.  You can not believe any person with an education.  No this lie is not about the so called "global warming."

  This lie is in a CNN story called "Scientists reaffirm theory that giant asteroid killed dinosaurs." 

"(CNN) -- A team of scientists has agreed that a giant asteroid killed off dinosaurs and a majority of other species on Earth more than 65 million years ago.

The researchers analyzed evidence and agreed it supports a single-impact theory first proposed 30 years ago on the cause of the mass extinction.

Since 1980, scientists have gathered an overwhelming amount of evidence that shows a single asteroid about 6 miles in diameter and traveling at 45,000 miles a second, slammed into the Gulf of Mexico, said Richard Norris, a paleoceanographer at the University of California San Diego.

The impact caused a crater 24 miles deep and 125 miles wide, according to Norris, who was part of the research team…"

  If you believe in Jesus Christ our lord and savior and if you believe in his holy word as written in our blessed bible and if you have been home schooled then you know that they are wrong because the earth is only 6,000 years old and so an asteroid could not have hit here 65 million years ago.
  In fact using the Scripture we know for a fact that the earth is only 6,000 years old.  God created the earth in about 4000 BC. 
  
  These lies are why the people of the book need to take over local boards of education and why they need to make the United States the Christian nation it was founded to be. 

Funds sought for ill 'Stand and Deliver' teacher

  I found the following AP story on Yahoo! News.  I am posting the entire story here.

 

"LOS ANGELES – Cast members of the 1988 movie "Stand and Deliver" are appealing for donations to help the movie's real-life subject, an East Los Angeles high school teacher, pay his medical bills.

Jaime Escalante is battling cancer, and his family has run out of money to pay for his treatments. The Bolivian-born Escalante is 79 years old.

Actress Vanessa Marquez, who appeared in the film, told Fox 11 news in an interview Monday that $5,000 has been raised so far, but $25,000 more is needed.

"Stand and Deliver" dramatized the story of how Garfield High School math teacher Escalante turned a group of no-hoper students into calculus champs.

Actor Edward James Olmos played the role of Escalante in the film."

Open carry in your face

  Yahoo News has an AP story; "Buzz and bullets: Gun fans cheer Starbuck's policy."

Dale Welch recently walked into a Starbucks in Virginia, handgun strapped to his waist, and ordered a banana Frappuccino with a cinnamon bun. He says the firearm drew a double-take from at least one customer, but not a peep from the baristas.

Welch's foray into the coffeehouse was part of an effort by some gun owners to exercise and advertise their rights in states that allow people to openly carry firearms.

Even in some "open carry" states, businesses are allowed to ban guns in their stores. And some have, creating political confrontations with gun owners. But Starbucks, the largest chain targeted, has refused to take the bait, saying in a statement this month that it follows state and local laws and has its own safety measures in its stores.

"Starbucks is a special target because it's from the hippie West Coast, and a lot of dedicated consumers who pay $4 for coffee have expectations that Starbucks would ban guns. And here they aren't," said John Bruce, a political science professor at the University of Mississippi who is an expert in gun policy…"

    I agree with the statement by Peter Hamm a spokesman for the Brady campaign.

 

"If you want to dress up and go out and make a little political theater by frightening children in the local Starbucks, if that's what you want to spend your energy on, go right ahead," said Peter Hamm, a spokesman for the Brady campaign. "But going out and wearing a gun on your belt to show the world you're allowed to is a little juvenile."

The coffeehouse debate has been particularly poignant for gun-control advocates in Washington state, where four uniformed police officers were shot and killed while working on their laptops at a suburban coffeehouse. The shooter later died in a gun battle with police…"

Rep Anthony Weiner disciplined for speech

  You got to see this video.   Rep. Anthony Weiner making a speech in congress has his words "taken down."  That is he was disciplined for using "inappropriate words in debate."  What he said was about the Republicans and 100% true.
  I never heard of "Words Taken Down" and did not know such a thing could be done.
  There is NO way I could be a member of the House.  Everything I said about the Republicans would be "inappropriate words."
  When the Republicans call President Obama a Communist are their "Words Taken Down?"  When the Republicans say that there are going to be death panels to kill older Americans are their "Words Taken Down?"

Life magazine April 12 of 1948

  For the first time in my life I went to Google Books.  I did not have much of an idea what in the hell it was… But I just went to it and I decided to try it out so I picked “Life” magazine the April 12 issue of 1948 to check out.
  I would have been 7 years old then and I could have seen the magazine and even read it at that age.
  Well here I am at 67 years of age reading the magazine online.
  I am shocked.  I sort of knew that the magazine was right wing conservative but my God it is worst than Fox “news.” 
  Just as an example see this story in the issue:  Wall Street Warfare

It is a story about a strike by the United Financial Employees union.  It was a union for 5000 Wall Street stock exchange employees (like clerks). 
I am not making this up you can read it with that link above the magazine calls some Seafarers International Union members “a squad of horny handed sailors. “  The police beat the workers for a “lie-down” tactic. That is the union members laid down to block the entrance to the stock exchange. 
The magazine did not even make any attempt to be fair in their reporting.
The writing in the magazine is also very bad.

Oh something else I would like to mention… Those Seafarers union members…Keep in mind this was in 1948.  WWII ended in 1945 and if I remember right the Seafarers union lost the most men in World War II.  You were better off being in any branch of the military than being in the Merchant Marine.  During WWII those “horny” Merchant Marine (Seafarers union members) died at a rate of 1 in 24 for the United States.
In 1988 President Reagan signed a bill into law granting veteran status to merchant mariners who served in WWII.

In the same issue you might want to read:  The Democratic Plan to Draft Eisenhower.  It says "President Harry Truman stands no chance of re-election."  HST was re-elected by the way.
It also says that General Dwight D. Eisenhower has rejected a political career and is a man of integrity and his statement must be accepted.  Of course Eisenhower did run four years later as a Republican and won.

Now I do know that Reader's Digest was always very right wing conservative.  I used to like read the magazine.  It had some good stories it it and some nice features but they would toss in some right wing Republican conservative garbage in each issue and I just got fed up with the heavy handed unfair lies and I gave up reading it and still will never pick up an issue and read it to this day.

FBI probing PA school webcam spy case

  It is hard to believe that this is a real story.  This should be a movie.  I can not believe how stupid that school administration was about this entire matter.

PHILADELPHIA – A Pennsylvania school district accused of secretly switching on laptop computer webcams inside students' homes is under investigation by federal authorities, a law enforcement official with knowledge of the case told The Associated Press.

The FBI will look into whether any federal wiretap or computer-intrusion laws were violated by Lower Merion School District officials, the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the official was not authorized to discuss the investigation, told the AP on Friday.

Days after a student filed suit over the practice, Lower Merion officials acknowledged Friday that they remotely activated webcams 42 times in the past 14 months, but only to find missing student laptops. They insist they never did so to spy on students, as the student's family claimed in the federal lawsuit.

Families were not informed of the possibility the webcams might be activated in their homes without their permission in the paperwork students sign when they get the computers, district spokesman Doug Young said.

"It's clear what was in place was insufficient, and that's unacceptable," Young said.

The district has suspended the practice amid the lawsuit and the accompanying uproar from students, the community and privacy advocates. District officials hired outside counsel to review the past webcam activations and advise the district on related issues, Young said.

Remote-activation software can be used to capture keystrokes, send commands over the Internet or turn computers into listening devices by turning on built-in microphones. People often use it for legitimate purposes — to access computers from remote locations, for example. But hackers can use it to steal passwords and spouses to track the whereabouts of partners or lovers.

“Tonight's full moon will be the biggest and brightest full moon of the year. It offers anyone with clear skies an opportunity to identify easy-to-see features on the moon.

This being the first full moon of 2010, it is also known as the wolf moon, a moniker dating back to Native American culture and the notion that hungry wolves howled at the full moon on cold winter nights. Each month brings another full moon name.

But why will this moon be bigger than others? Here's how the moon works:

The moon is, on average, 238,855 miles (384,400 km) from Earth. The moon's orbit around Earth – which causes it to go through all its phases once every 29.5 days – is not a perfect circle, but rather an ellipse. One side of the orbit is 31,070 miles (50,000 km) closer than the other.

So in each orbit, the moon reaches this closest point to us, called perigee. Once or twice a year, perigee coincides with a full moon, as it will tonight, making the moon bigger and brighter than any other full moons during the year.

Tonight it will be about 14 percent wider and 30 percent brighter than lesser full Moons of the year, according to Spaceweather.com.

  It is going to be cold tonight but I am going to check it out.
I love looking at the sky.  I love space and astronomy.  I wish my eyes were better and I wish I had the location and the equipment to do astronomy. 
  I can not afford more than one hobby.. Hell I can not afford one hobby and I consider the Internet and computers to be one hobby.

  CNN has a story by A. Pawlowski and it is listed as a “Mate debate: Is monogamy realistic?” 
  I know news sites run a lot of stories and reports around subjects like this… anything that talks about sex, sin, stars, mating… People jump on it and want to read it right away… 
  My gut feeling is that this sort of story on CNN does nothing but hurt them.. If I were one of the born again bible beaters this story would set me off and make me think that CNN had a issue and a goal. 
  Now knowing what I know about Faux News (aka Fox “news”) I could not turn to them because they run and show more sex than all the other networks.  They of course pretend that they are showing you how bad the other networks are or that they are showing you how sinful the others are… That would not work on me but I bet it works with a lot of the God squad people.

How much longer will the space station fly?

“(CNN) -- It's the most complex construction project in history.

Flying 250 miles overhead, the international space station can be seen with the naked eye, orbiting the Earth every 90 minutes, usually carrying a crew of six. Now, before construction of the station is even complete, there is already talk of when the lights will be turned off.

NASA is waiting for the Obama administration to decide how much longer the station will fly and exactly which direction the U.S. space agency will take next -- a return to the moon, or maybe a trip to Mars?

The initial phase of the international space station was launched in 1998, although the station is still being expanded. The U.S. is one of 16 countries that help build and operate the station, whose laboratory runs a number of science experiments, including measuring the effects of space conditions, such as weightlessness, on humans…”  CNN

  I have been a fan and supporter of the space program from the very first.  When the USSR put up Sputnik 1 I tracked it on my shortwave radio.  I listened to it on 20.005 mHz.  I was hooked on space from that time.  Well the truth is I had been interested in the sky before that time.  
  Sputnik 1 went up on October 4, 1957 and I was in high school.
  My hobby was shortwave listening and right after I started doing a space communications column.  I would list satellites and their orbit information and the frequencies. 
  I would fall sleep tracking a satellite and the next orbit would wake me up.  Explorer 7 was one such satellite. 
  OK OK…the point is I have been and will be a big fan of the space program.  I had no idea that ISS had a dead line date.  I was thinking it was in space to stay and that we would just update it and add to it.  I was thinking that it would be there for all time.  I did not know that we had to choose it or something else. 
  It seems to me that we should have an ISS-Earth, an ISS-Moon and ISS-Mars.  It seems to me that they should connected and working with each other. 
  If we are going to kill off the ISS then I question if it was ever worth the money and the effort.  We spent a lot of money and we have lost lives just to build the ISS.  Why did we build the ISS?

  I hope the ISS will stay in orbit and out live us all.

  We know the Republican stand on this issue right?  They will want to give   space, the Moon, Mars and the sky and heaven to the big corporations.  They want them to control the water you drink, the air you breath and the sun that falls on your face.
