If I had not read the story and you were to ask me what cable channel had a gunman holding hostages I would not have come up with the Discovery Channel. My first guess would have been CNN.
There are so many people in the United States that are not lucid. Some are that way all the time and some just from time to time. It seems like we got a lot of people out of control and not living in the real world.
We need medical help for these people but I am not sure we can afford it. On the other hand can we afford not to get them the treatment that they need?
We need real national health care for all Americans and we need it to cover mental conditions.
We need to make sure we do not start wars that are not necessary and end up spending three trillion dollars. We could afford health care and other things if we did not waste money on the Iraq war.
We also have a problem with violence in this nation. We all are guilty of it. You ask me to name some of the movies that I like and I will name some movies with violence. I think it is part of our history.
We need to work on non-violent conflict management. But everything is so political now. It is hard to get sex education approved for kids in school and I suspect if you attempted to get non-violent conflict management education in schools that you would have major protests for some reason.
There is a lot of violent in our nation and our cities but I do think that the news media, by their reporting, scare the hell out of a lot of people. It makes a lot of people live in fear and that leads to paranoia.
I do not know what the answer is for the problem. I know that more police, more guns and more gated communities is not the answer.
