I could not connect with the WiFi using Windows XP. I could boot into Linux and it would connect without a problem.
I went up to Walgreens Pharmacy and they had 14 foot lengths of networking cable for $10.00 and I got two of them. I had a connector here at home. So I now have a networking cable running across the living room floor and into my bedroom.
I took off the USB WiFi card.
I was in Ubuntu and I went to www.speedtest.net and I got 14M down! With the WiFi when it was working I would get 4 or 5M down.
I then booted into Windows XP and it connected right away. I did the speed test and I got 8M down. Before I would get 4M down with the WiFi.
So this problem is taken care of for right now. I fully expect something else to happen. This is an old computer. But for now.. I have Internet.
