I signed up for the Apple MobileMe service.
My email address is: hnbbs@me.com
I do not have an iPhone yet. I won one in a contest and I hope to get it soon. I signed up for the free 60 day trial of MobileMe. After 60 days it will be $99.00 a year. I had to give them credit card information to sign up.
After signing up and doing a couple of little things I went to their site:
www.me.com
I got a message that they do not fully support Windows IE 7.0, I am running IE 8.0, so I did not try using IE. They said that FireFox 3 or Avant Browser would work so I signed in with Firefox.
Right away I sent myself an email to hnbbs@me.com and it showed up right away. That is a nice feature. Some web site email services do not update right away. (GMX updates very well.)
Since I do not have my iPhone I could not sync with one to see how that would work. I am sure it will be pretty slick.
I sent an email from the Me.Com site. The message editor was very basic and very simple. No extra functions. Just about the only thing it had was a spell checker.
I sent an email to myself and it worked.
I had no “Contacts” so I can not tell you much about it. It looks simple but maybe that is the idea since your sending this data to to an iPhone or an iTouch.
The Calendar looked OK but nothing special about it.
I guess I should tell you that I've been the owner of a Palm device for years. The Palm operation system is excellent and their software (Palm Desktop) is excellent.
The “Gallery” is nothing special. The maximum file size to upload is 1 GB. I uploaded a 4.2 MB photo. It was the photo of the golf course that I put on HNB today.
There is an “iDisk” and I guess it is where you can store all sorts of files.
Right now I see nothing special or exciting about the MobileMe.
With a full account your limited to 20 GB of storage.
When I get my iPhone maybe I will be crazy about this service. I do not think I will. Believe me the Palm software is excellent.
