The United States Treasure Secretary (Henry Paulson) says that the banking system is sound. He says, however, that there will be troubled times ahead. The FAA has offered
an unprecedented $100,000 bonus to air-traffic controllers throughout
the country to lure them to the New York area's five understaffed radar
centers - and has even begun trolling local high schools to recruit for
the jobs.
I think that things are going to get bad for the little guy. I am not sure the people at the top understand just how hard it is for the common Joe.
When we get a new president in office I think things will start to get better. We got to clean out the current nest of vipers.
We have to stop the greed. We have to do the right things.
If we can all get behind the new president when he is elected. I hope that we can start to fix the things that are broken.
Did you see the following in the news?
"The FAA began its recruitment efforts in high schools and through online ads on MySpace and Craigslist because of a severe staffing shortage and lack of experience among workers at its air-control towers.
One recent hire is a 20-year-old who is now reading the scopes for the Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON) center in Westbury, LI, officials said.
By 2011, 59 percent of all controllers will have less than five years on the job.
The recently hired 20-year-old man has a bachelor's degree in air-traffic control, but other new hires can come straight out of 12th grade. They go through three months of training before becoming "controllers in training" and eventually full-fledged staffers..." See the full story at New York Post
Do you know just how odd that change is and the history of it?
It all boils down again to our incompetent president. The Bush administration refused to hire any ATC peope for years. They did not want more federal employees and they wanted to break the ATC union. They wanted to cut the pay and they got the pay cut. Then they started to hire and train a few people. They are having problems getting people to take the job. The people now doing the job are under more stress and are working longer hours and having to handle more traffic in the air.
We have had people in office that have a mission and a goal and they use things that happen. They used 9/11 as a reason to go to work with Iraq. They want to use high gas prices as a reason to do offshore drilling and to drill in national parks and your back yard.
We need people that try and do the smart thing and the right thing.
I hope our next president is a man of honor.
We need someone like Harry Truman.
And NO John McCain is not a Harry Truman.
