I have posted many times about police using tasers in the wrong way. I have commented about force level. You don't use the teaser just because someone does not follow your command. You use that level of force after you have attempted other steps and then you move up to the level if you need to use that level of force.
Now this YouTube video I found first on Amercablog. The blog says you "have to watch this video" and he "wasn't fighting" and "just carry him away" and "you don't tase people for refusing to stand up."
Well I am a fan of Americablog but I don't agree. Now understand we don't know all the details. But let me do a little guessing here.
For some reason the UCLA police notice this guy. Something made them say something is wrong with this guy. We need to check him out. It appears he refused to show a student ID and refused to give them any information. He told them to "fuck off." They must have told him he would have to leave. He refused to leave and told them to go to hell or something to that effect. They then would have told him that he was trespassing and that he had to leave for be arrested. He told them to go to hell or something like that. They then should have told him he was under arrest. Now we can't see from the video and in fact mostly we hear audio but he was disorderly and he should have been arrested for that. I am sure they took his arms and tried to get him to move out of the building and he must have pulled back or made a fist or something. That is resisting arrest and additional charge. If he pushed and officer or touched the officer that would be battery and an additional charge.
The officers were within their rights to apply pain to move him and to take. If they had attempted to carry him out with him fighting they would have hurt their backs or something and going to the taser seems like that best choice.
If any of the students in the back ground that you hear yelling...if any of them touched an officer or attempted to stop the officers from effecting the arrest they should be arrested and expelled from school.
